Well we went to see the ENT doctor this last week and he definitely recommended Jace have tubes. He took hearing tests, and there was below average movement in both ears, and one ear was even worse (where he has gotten most of the ear infections), and his hearing was below average. I think Steve and I had already decided that we would do tubes, but then the doctor also recommended he have his adenoids out too. The doctor really thinks it is the root cause of why he gets sick so much (the place where the bacteria gets caught and grows). They don't normally take them out until the child is 18 months old, just because they are hard to get too when they are smaller, and Jace will be 18 months old tomorrow. He said if we just do the tubes he will likely still gets runny noses a lot, which he has constantly now (the doctor called him a mouth breather, because he is always stopped up). So we are currently scheduled for tubes and adenoid removal on March 5th- though we have until the pre-op appointment to make the final decision. We just feel so bad that he is sick all the time, but the idea of having to put him to sleep for surgery makes us both cry just thinking of it. Everyone tells me it is the best thing they ever did, but it still is very hard. Oh and he prescribed another antibiotic- his ears looked better but there was a lof of fluid in his ears, so it was a matter of days before he had a bad infection again. This one was supposed to dry him up (nose and all) but we are on day 6 of 10 and his nose is still running all the time.
So in a week we will know if we have a boy or girl- exciting. It seems so much more real then- you can start talking about names and SHOPPING. Though if it is a boy I have no reason to buy any clothes- Jace had so much and I saved everything (there are 8 big containers in closets upstairs). But we will still need to get furniture and start talking about the nursery. I know Steve is somewhat afraid if it is a girl- there is so much more cute stuff out there for girls, but knowing how much the grandmas love to shop and the bargain hunter in me will make me refrain from buying too much (I hope).
We actually got out by ourselves on Friday night for a friend's birthday party. Which considering it is the only the second time we have had a babysitter that was not one of our moms, it is a big deal for us. We use an older lady who works at Jace's daycare (she used to be his teacher) and her fee is reasonable so I wonder why we don't so it more- he reminded us. When she came he instantly knew what was going on. He did not cry he just got sad. He laid on the floor and put his face down- would not even look up to say goodbye- killed me. We had a good time, but felt guilty. We keep saying we need to do it more, just to go see a movie since it has been 2 years since we have been together, so we will see if we get the guts- he knows how to lay on a guilt trip.

So sorry to hear about little Jace's ears. David is going to have surgery on his eye at some point but we're hoping to wait until he's 4 or so. It's kind of a waiting game to see if we can hold off that long... Anyway, I know it's hard to think about your little one having surgery. It sounds like it would be a good thing for Jace but that doesn't settle a mom and dad's nerves much, does it?
Did you know TL's Kaden had surgery on his eye quite a while back? She could tell you about how the whole thing goes with putting him under and then coming out of it, etc...
